How to be sure you are ordering on a secure web site
Shopping online is as secure as shopping in the “real” world when you follow just a couple of rules.
The Gold Pad Lock
When you are on a web page where you will be giving personal information, be sure to look for the gold padlock icon in the lower right corner of your screen. It is the security symbol for making secure transactions on the Internet. Make sure the padlock icon is on your browser and not just on the web page. (Anybody can put the pad lock icon on their web page, if it is a secure site the pad lock will be in your tool bar, on your browser.)
The "S" in the address bar
Look at the website address in the address bar of your browser. When you are transferred to a secure page of the web site the http:// will have changed to https://, this is another way you can tell that you have gone to a secure page of the web site.
The Security Certificate
All secure web pages will have a “site security certificate” located by clicking on "File", and scrolling down to "Properties". Click Properties then the “Certificates” tab. You’ll see who the certificate is issued to and how
long it’s valid.
